. . . okay . . .
. . . now ~ from that awesome
french seam you just sewed,
measure down the selvedge
twelve inches . . .
. . . mark the spot
with a straight pin . . .
. . . do that on all four corners . . .
. . . you'll need a package
of one-half inch
single fold bias tape . . .
. . . starting at
one of the straight pin markers,
heading toward
one of the french seams,
right sides together,
fold under about a half-inch
on the end of the bias tape . . .
. . . with raw edge of bias tape
and selvedge even,
stitch along the crease
of the bias tape . .
. . . twelve inches toward
the first french seam,
across the end of the sheet,
past the second french seam
and down twelve inches
to the second straight pin . . .
. . . cut and fold end of bias tape
and finish as you started . . .
. . . again, envision
a finished fitted sheet . . .
. . . press the bias tape back
into its original shape . . .
. . . re-creasing the fold . . .
. . . then fold bias tape
to the inside and press . . .
. . . stitch as close to the edge
as possible
~ forming a casing . . .
. . . optional: i like to topstitch
close to the finished edge
of the casing, too . . .
. . . i use my hemming foot
as a guide . . .
. . . ensuring a row of stitching
that is realllllllly close
to the edge . . .
. . . cut two pieces
~ each 20 inches long ~
of 1/4 inch elastic . . .
. . . use a large safety pin
to insert elastic into casing
on each end . . .
. . . gather onto the safety pin
and then pull through . . .
. . . take care not to pull
all the way through . . .
{speaking from experience!}
. . . when you're
about halfway across
with the safety pin,
stop and secure
the elastic end . . .
. . . stitch back and forth
several times . . .
. . . continue inserting elastic . . .
. . . pull two inches
past the other end of casing . . .
. . . secure second end . . .
. . . trim excess two inches
of elastic . . .
. . . each end should look like this . . .
. . . and your custom fitted crib sheet is complete . . .
. . . they're super easy
and quick to make . . .
. . . so easy
i made three of them
today . . .
. . . much easier to sew
than it is to write about
HOW to sew! . . .
. . . i just wish i knew
where to buy
cute king size fabric! . . .
