25 June 2012

. . . bare . . .

. . . it's nearly the end of june . . .
. . . so ~ the party's
pretty much over . . .

. . . gone are the pink geraniums
and alyssum . . .
. . . and . . .
. . . AND . . .
. . . adding insult to injury . . .
. . . my valentines day topiary
got crunchy and died, too . . .

. . . bye bye to this view
from my front door . . .

. . . no more
overflowing flower pots . . .

. . . i was fully prepared to toss
all these plants today, also . . .
. . . but yesterday,
my home teachers
talked me out of it . . .
. . . saying they still look great . . .
. . . i'll take their word for it,
for now anyway . . .
. . . they ARE green, but . . .
. . . as soon as the flowers open,
they fry . . .

. . . we'll see how long
i can keep the ivy alive . . .

. . . because it's no fun
to be out there watering it . . .
. . . oh, well . . .
. . . only four months
'til i can plant again . . .

{i learned a valuable lesson today:
five weeks is too long to go
without balancing your checkbook.
that's two hours i'll never get back.
and please keep your quicken comments to yourself.
i'm old school.
the end.}
{it eventually balanced ~ to the penny.}

Wow! I thought I was the only "old schooler" who still uses a pen, paper statement and calculator to balance her checkbook. I'll use Excel to calculate stuff for taxes but IMHO there's no substitute for that feeling of triumph when you hit the total button and "Ta-Da" - - balanced to the penny!!

Every time I go to Oregon or Washington I just stare at the flowers. I can't get enough of them. My daughter-in-laws get tired of me saying "Oh my heck, look at the flowers you can grow here". As much as I've tried, the summer flowers in AZ just don't work. You baby them along til you finally see they are just plain dead and then you have to rip them out and wait until General Conference to plant again and wait patiently for the fruits of the blooms. Thanks for teaching me about geraniums. I love my porch SO much more when they greet me each time I go out to get the mail. And my "babies" love helping me water the flowers too. Especially with the cute piggy watering cans Jones gave me. I luv them....the flowers, babies, and Jones.
